Gulab Jamun Recipe

Ingredients :

    • Self-raising fl our – 75 g
    • Full-cream milk powder – 300 g
    • Ghee (clarifi ed butter) – 30 g
    • Evaporated milk – 90 ml
    • Ghee or corn oil for frying

Syrup

    • Sugar – 560 g
    • Water – 1 litre

Method :

    1. Prepare syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water and bring to the boil until sugar is dissolved. Leave to cool.
    2. Sift self-raising fl our and milk powder into a large bowl. Rub in ghee, then add enough evaporated milk to give a fi rm but pliable dough. Form into small balls.
    3. Heat ghee or corn oil for deep-frying in a wok and deep-fry over low heat until gulab jamun are dark golden in colour.
    4. Remove gulab jamun and place them in prepared syrup in a covered container. Allow to cool completely and serve at room temperature or chilled.
