Annatto Oil Recipe

Ingredients :

    • 1/2 cup (20 g) annatto seeds
    • 1/2 cup (125 ml) oil

Method :

    1. Fry the seeds in the oil for several minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
    2. When the oil is cool enough to touch, crush the seeds with the back of a spoon. Allow the crushed seeds to stand in the oil for 15 minutes.
    3. Strain and discard the seeds.

Note : You can buy packaged annatto powder that can be added to recipes instead of Annatto Oil as a food coloring agent, or achiotina which is a prepared annatto oil sold in small bottles. Annatto Oil and Annatto Water color food an attractive hue of orange or red.
