Nyonya Kuih Mah Chee Recipe

Nyonya Kuih Mah Chee Recipe

Ingredients :

    • Peanuts (groundnuts) – 60 g, roasted and coarsely ground
    • Grated skinned coconut – 120 g
    • Brown sugar – 75 g
    • Salt – 1/4 tsp
    • Glutinous rice fl our – 360 g
    • Water – 250 ml
    • Green (mung) bean fl our – 2 Tbsp, dry-roasted

Method :

    1. Put peanuts, grated coconut, brown sugar and salt in a wok and stir-fry over low heat for 10 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.
    2. Sift glutinous rice fl our into a mixing bowl and add enough water to form a soft dough. Divide into 15 portions and roll into balls.
    3. Flatten each ball of dough slightly and fi ll with 1 tsp of fi lling. Pinch edges to seal fi lling. Roll and lightly fl atten.
    4. Bring a pot of water to the boil. Drop in rice balls. Remove with a slotted spoon as soon as they fl oat to the surface. Allow to dry a little before coating with roasted green bean fl our.

Note : Green (mung) bean fl our is also known as luk tow fun in Cantonese. It is available from Chinese provision stores.
